This prospective, multicenter European study evaluated the clinical effects of a nasal spray formulation combining hypertonic saline with Anatolian propolis (product name Rhinapi) in individuals suffering from allergic rhinitis. A total of 440 patients (251 males, 189 females) were treated for three weeks and assessed for nasal symptoms (discharge, sneezing, itching, and obstruction), overall symptom score, otolaryngologic exam results (including conchal colour and edema), and quality of life (QoL) both before and after treatment. Use of the propolis-added hypertonic saline spray was associated with a statistically significant reduction in all individual nasal symptom scores and in the total symptom score (P < .05), along with significant improvement in QoL scores and the otolaryngologic findings (P < .05). The authors conclude that the Rhinapi nasal spray offers a beneficial adjunctive option in allergic rhinitis management by reducing symptom burden and improving mucosal appearance and patient-reported quality of life.
